Privacy Policy

Effective June 23, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how TownBrief ("we," "us," or "our"), publisher of Sudburynews at sudbury.townbrief.com (the "Service"), collects, uses, and protects your information. By using the Service or subscribing to our email, you agree to this policy.

Who we are

TownBrief is an independent local-news publisher covering Sudbury, Massachusetts, and surrounding communities. You can reach us at dave@townbrief.com.

Information we collect

  • Account information you provide when you subscribe, such as your name (optional) and email address.
  • Subscription and payment information for paid memberships. Payments are processed by Stripe; we do not see or store your full card number — Stripe handles that as our payment processor.
  • Usage information, such as which pages and articles you view, and basic technical data (browser type, device, and similar) used to operate and improve the Service.

How we use your information

  • To deliver the editorial newsletter and news content you subscribed to.
  • To send transactional and account messages — sign-in links, verification codes, and subscription or billing notices.
  • To process and manage free and paid subscriptions.
  • To maintain, secure, analyze, and improve the Service.

Email and your choices

We send email only to people who have signed up for it. Our editorial newsletter is opt-in, and every newsletter includes a one-click unsubscribe link. You may unsubscribe at any time; transactional messages necessary to operate your account may still be sent while your account is active.

How we share information

We do not sell or rent your personal information. We share data only with the service providers that help us operate, who process it on our behalf:

  • Ghost — our publishing and membership platform.
  • Stripe — payment processing for paid subscriptions.
  • Google Workspace — outbound email delivery.

We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights, users, or the public.

Data retention and security

We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service and meet legal obligations. We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data, though no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

Cookies

The Service uses cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember preferences, and understand site usage. You can control cookies through your browser settings.

Your rights

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information by emailing dave@townbrief.com. You can also delete your account at any time.

Children

The Service is intended for a general adult audience and is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by an updated effective date on this page.
